Description
The SMITH LNX8™ is a unique product in the paving line marking world because it eliminates the grooving pattern or ghost line that is normally associated with flail cutter drum-style grooving machines.
Thermoplastic, cold-plastic, epoxy, or paint coatings are erased by the LNX8 by breaking the coating and scraping across it simultaneously, leaving a smoothed beveled edge without grooves or undulations on concrete or asphalt.
The Smith LNX8 is a walk-behind line remover machine that is easy to operate or you can purchase the optional ride-on machine for an even easier and faster job life. With the Smith LNX8, you get a no-vibration spindle mount with adjustable height, pitch, and pressure control with optional multiple ganged side-mounted removable weight ballasts with cradle dampener for best the surface finishes and long service life.
When compared to the horizontal shaft drum style scarifiers, the LNX8 is a vertical shaft rotary setup that spins the removal tools along a vertical plane. This allows a circular top-down motion instead of a horizontal line of cutting and with the right rotary cutting tools, you can get an excellent finish with minimal marring on the surface.
The LNX8 is powered by a 13HP Honda electric start engine and includes a backup pull-start. (Battery not included)
Quick Groover vs Eraser Comparison
Groover
If you're looking to create an actual groove for the paint to go in so the marking is flush with the surface, (ideal for snow-plow removal, etc.) the Smith FS200 or FS209 and SPS10 products are drum-style cutters and those are the way to go.
Yes, you can technically adjust the height of a groover to barely skim the surface, however, this is usually only good for straight lines and doesn't work very well for arrows or traffic direction markings.
Eraser
If you need a machine that will get rid of the paint or thermoplastic from the top of the pavement without drastically removing the pavement, the LNX8 is the way to go. Erasers can be moved in almost any direction with it's rear castor wheel setup. This is great for moving forward and backward or side to side in a sweeping motion to get a larger area removed.
Cutter Information
There are a handful of cutter options that will work with the Smith LNX8, but we specifically sell it online with the 144-pin Erase-it rotary spindle for pavement marking removal. If you would like a different rotary bit material, please call or email for a quote +1(800) 689-2098
The Erase-it spindles use 144-pin tungsten carbide planetary pins which are perfect for general removal of paints and thermoplastics from the surface of asphalt or concrete pavements.
