Description

How would you like to have a water-based paint that is versatile enough to be usable in a bunch of different scenarios and still has excellent performance? The Ennis Flint by PPG EF Series Low Temp is designed around the TT-P-1952F Type II (Type 2) US Federal specification which dictates the paint must be usable in a variety of conditions, especially in low temperature applications. In fact, the Ennis Flint EF series Low-Temperature paint exceeds some of the Federal specifications in order to meet certain state requirements.

According to the federal spec, Type II is designed for use under adverse conditions. Ok, but what does that mean?

For use under adverse conditions, i.e., night striping, higher humidity (around 80%), low air movement and lower surface temperatures, down to 10°C (50°F). Not for use at the greater thickness required for the larger diameter Type IV beads.

In other words, 1952F Type II is a fantastic paint for jobs that call for adverse weather, or maybe climates that are more humid than others. Its biggest selling point though is that it can be applied in temperatures starting at 35ºF which is 15º cooler than the Type 2 requires! It's also designed for Type I or Type III glass beads but won't work well with Type IV glass beads.

The Ennis Flint EF series Low-Temperature paint is a 100% acrylic water-based paint that is formulated to deliver extraordinary performance and be a fast-drying paint across a broad range of application conditions.

Listed with many states as an APL / QPL, you can buy in confidence knowing this specific formula is allowed to go down on state** highways, roads, and streets. It is also approved as a Federal paint for airport runways where higher-spec paints aren't called for, or it can just as well be used on parking lots. Basically, anywhere asphalt or Portland cement is used, this product will work just fine.

** Always check with your state's APL / QPL before purchase.

So who should use this paint? Since it is approved by many states, it's ideal for state workers or contract construction crews working for the state to be used on highways and roads. It's also great for cities, counties, and even small contractors looking for quality paint who want to save buying in bulk. Really, it's a great all-around paint for anyone in the line-marking industry.

As far as surfaces go, you can use this paint on highways, roads/streets, parking lots, and airport taxiways or runways where the 1952F Type III spec isn't explicitly called for.

Did we mention the "No Track" time of this paint is 90 seconds or less? Yeah, it's a super-fast-drying paint. Keep that in mind if you're spreading glass beads by hand. The "no pickup time" (without glass beads) is 10 minutes or less and the full dry-through time is 2 hours or less @ 15mil thick, wet.

Another area you might be concerned with is the VOC limits which have become the primary force behind a lot of spec updates. The Federal spec requires the VOC limit to be less than or equal to 150 g/L. The 1160 series comes in at less than 100 g/L, so it's way under the federal limit for volatile organic compounds and designed to meet or exceed even a lot of the state-level specifications.

What you're getting with this purchase, is a 250-gallon tote of paint.

Why buy a tote? If you know you'll need a lot of paint for a job or throughout the year, the tote is the most economical, not to mention an eco-friendly way to go. Buckets end up in landfills but you can re-fill the same bucket over and over using a tote as long as you have a way of getting the tote higher than the bucket. Smart line striping professionals will buy a tote of paint and stick it on a 2 or 3-foot platform, high enough to get a bucket under the valve. They fill the buckets they need for the day and load them up. It's a great way to increase profits by buying in bulk, not to mention the saved trips to the paint store which eats into time.
