Our Big A Asphalt Emulsion Driveway Sealer is an environmentally friendly asphalt emulsion based sealer. This is a professional duty sealer with high solid contents that are designed for the sealing and resurfacing of asphalt driveways, cart paths, bike paths, and parking lots of all sizes. It is absorbed by the asphalt pavement and helps the pavement stay pliable, and fills small cracks and voids in the pavement surface adding extra protection from salts and moisture.
Our premium Big A asphalt emulsion sealer is formulated using the most advanced polymer technology to provide improved curing characteristics, durability, adhesion, and color retention - greatly extending the life of the pavement by completely sealing the surface of the asphalt to prevent damage from weather and oils.
This sealer is applied using a Brushcoater or Sealcoat Squeegee and pavement needs to be repaired and clean before application.
Depending on the time of year, weather can be pretty crazy. The tool at dafscale.com which is presented by PPP Co, will let you know if you're safe from the weather to apply materials such as paint, asphalt sealcoat, pour concrete, etc.
Enter your zip code and a new page will open with a meter and forecast that tells you if the weather is good enough to apply material at the time you check. If not, you'll see a forecast a little further down the page that looks at the next 1-12, 24 and 36 hours. This gives a really good indication by the hour, if you're safe to do the project or hold off another day or two.
We would like to take a quick moment to mention the lids on our single order buckets. If you order a handful of pails, we ship them in what we call "Super Buckets" which are a much higher quality bucket and lid compared to what you might be used to. These lids are on tight and might be difficult to remove without some guidance.
We recommend three methods to remove the lids:
1) The easiest is to purchase the bucket opener. You can add the opener with this product before you add-to-cart.
2) If you have two (2) channel lock pliers, you can use them to walk around the lid, using both to pry up a little at a time.
3) Cut slits in the side of the lid using a hacksaw every 4-5 inches apart, all the way around the lid to create tabs. Then using pliers or a flat head screwdriver, pry up each tab.
To make a long story short, 50lbs of material in a bucket that gets tossed around by ground drivers, caused a lot of damage claims on our end. We decided it made more sense for a customer to receive their order in-tact with a little lid frustration than get a bucket covered in material wrapped up in a plastic bag.

Short Answer: None - Our sealer comes pre-mixed, ready-to-use with 70% of it's makeup being solids. This includes a special ground slate compound already mixed in for abrasives to create a long lasting sealer. We do NOT recommend adding any additional abrasives such as sand to this product as it will alter its intended makeup and consistency. Our slate compound has proven to be a far superior alternative to sand and we have full confidence that you will be very happy with the results of this product.
Short Answer: Upto 5% by volume - Our asphalt emulsion sealer comes pre-mixed as a ready-to-use product with the appropriate amount of water added for maximum performance of the product. You can "dilute" the product by adding upto 5% water by volume but we highly discourage you from adding water or attempting to dilute the product to "make it go further".
Short Answer: Yes - Once applied to pavement, this product will not degrade in colder temperatures. However, unused, this product cannot be frozen or applied in freezing temperatures without damaging the physical makeup of the material.
Short Answer: Approximately 3 - 4 years - Our Big A asphalt emulsion sealer is designed with 70% solids, almost 40% more than your average big-box store sealers. They advertise a 2 year sealer, but in reality, it might last 1 year and if you're lucky, 2. If properly applied, our sealer will last approximately 3 to 4 years in low traffic conditions like a driveway or small business parking lot. To achieve maximum lifespan, this product can NOT be diluted nor have additional sand additives. Also, the pavement must be cleaned of all dust and debris prior to sealing. Failure to comply with these application requirements will greatly reduce the overall lifespan of this product.
Short Answer: Yes - All of the asphalt emulsion and coal tar sealcoat sealers we offer, are designed to be applied with either a sealcoat sprayer or manually with a sealcoat brush or squeegee. Gilsonite sealers can only be applied with a squeegee or mechanical pump.
