Description
Does high durability, high-build paint sound like something you would be interested in? The Ennis Flint by PPG EF Series is a Fast-Dry 100% cross-linking acrylic latex waterborne paint that meets or exceeds the TT-P-1952F Type III (Type 3) US Federal specification.
According to the federal spec, Type III is designed for increased durability. OK, but what does that mean?
For use under normal weather conditions where higher durability and greater adhesion to glass beads is desired. Minimum application temperature should be 12.8°C (55°F) and rising. Low temperature will result in greater dry time, especially when specifying increased thickness as required when using Type IV beads.
In other words, 1952F Type III paint is a very durable, high-build paint that is ideal for Type IV glass beads. (Type 4 glass beads aren't that common but if the job calls for them, then a high-build paint like this one will be needed). Typically a high-build with Type 4 glass beads are mandatory on airports but there are times when roads or parking lots call for a high-build paint.
The Ennis Flint EF Series High-Build is listed with many states as an APL / QPL so you can buy in confidence knowing this specific formula is allowed to go down on state** highways, roads, and streets. It is also approved as a Federal paint for airport runways where higher-spec paints aren't called for, or it can just as well be used on parking lots. Basically, anywhere asphalt or Portland cement is used, this product will work just fine.
** If applying on state-funded projects, always check with your state's APL / QPL before purchase.
So who should use this paint? Since it is approved by many states, it's ideal for state workers or contract construction crews working for the state to be used on highways and roads. It's also great for cities, counties, and even small contractors looking for quality paint who want to save on buying in bulk. Really, it's a great all-around paint for anyone in the line-marking industry.
As far as surfaces go, you can use the EF Series paints on highways, roads/streets, parking lots, and airport taxiways or runways, especially where the 1952F Type III spec is explicitly called for.
Did we mention the "No Track" time of this paint is 90 seconds or less? Yeah, it's a super-fast-drying paint. Keep that in mind if you're spreading glass beads by hand. The "no pickup time" (without glass beads) is 10 minutes or less and the full dry-through time is 2 hours or less @ 15mil thick, wet.
Another area you might be concerned with is the VOC limits which have become the primary force behind a lot of spec updates. The Federal spec requires the VOC limit to be less than or equal to 150 g/L. The Ennis Flint EF series comes in at less than 100 g/L, so it's way under the federal limit for volatile organic compounds and designed to meet or exceed even a lot of the state-level specifications.
What you're getting with this purchase, is a 250-gallon tote of paint.
Why buy a tote? If you know you'll need a lot of paint for a job or throughout the year, the tote is the most economical, not to mention an eco-friendly way to go. Buckets end up in landfills but you can re-fill the same bucket over and over using a tote as long as you have a way of getting the tote higher than the bucket. Smart line striping professionals will buy a tote of paint and stick it on a 2 or 3-foot platform, high enough to get a bucket under the valve. They fill the buckets they need for the day and load them up. It's a great way to increase profits by buying in bulk, not to mention the saved trips to the paint store which eats into time.
